Crooked Nose Surgery

Premier Houston Rhinoplasty Surgeon Dr. Michel Siegel

A crooked nose can result from genetics or trauma (or both), and often involves a structural abnormality of the cartilage and bone. A rhinoplasty can straighten a crooked nose and bring out its beauty.

Trauma to the nose can occur from various activities, such as playing sports, physical altercations, or car accidents. In children, injuries like falls or being struck in the face may not result in broken bones, because their nasal structures are soft and pliable. Instead, those injuries typically dislocate the cartilage components. As children continue to grow, the dislocations can lead to a crooked nose, or the appearance of one.  In these cases a broken nose never was the issue.

Functional rhinoplasty: if you have a crooked nose, the benefits of rhinoplasty may be more than cosmetic

A crooked nose can cause both cosmetic deformities and breathing difficulties. A properly executed correction should address both aesthetic concerns and the functional aspects of breathing.

Traditional vs. ultrasonic rhinoplasty

The first important component of straightening a crooked nose is to avoid unnecessary trauma. “Traditional” rhinoplasty involves osteotomies, commonly known as “breaking the nose,” using the same hammer and chisel instruments that have been used for over a century in attempts to straighten the nose.

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, offered by Dr. Siegel, avoids these traumatic methods. Also known as piezo rhinoplasty, the ultrasonic technique uses ultrasound waves to realign the bones of the nose without breaking them or harming surrounding structures. This technique minimizes injury to nearby tissues, including blood vessels.  That helps prevent the bruising and swelling associated with traditional methods. As a result, pain is significantly minimized and recovery time is reduced to about one week.

The second component required to straighten a nose is straightening the various cartilages of the nose. Depending on each case, a septoplasty, and/or grafts (i.e. the addition of cartilage) may be required to optimize the appearance and breathing function of the nose.

Dr. Siegel’s double board certification in ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery reflects his ability to give patients functional and cosmetic results. If you have suffered from a crooked nose and live in the Houston area (or are willing to travel), contact Dr. Siegel’s office.

Why choose Dr. Michel Siegel for your rhinoplasty?

The success of your nose surgery depends above all on the nose surgeon you pick.

Rhinoplasty is not just another procedure offered by Dr. Siegel: It is his main focus.  Dr. Siegel is a nose surgery specialist. He is double board certified by the only two boards certifying nose specialists (abohns.org and abfprs.org.  Those certifications and his 20+ years of rhinoplasty experience, allow him to perform revision rhinoplasty to correct flaws in primary, secondary, and tertiary rhinoplasties.

More developments in rhinoplasty surgery have occurred in the last 15 years than in the previous 100.  Your surgeon should be skilled in the best new techniques in nose surgery.

Dr. Siegel is one of the first surgeons in Texas and the country to be trained in Turkey, Europe, and Latin America in advanced surgical techniques for nose surgery. These techniques include ultrasonic rhinoplasty, which avoids breaking the bones as in traditional rhinoplasty, and preservation rhinoplasty, where the shape of the nose is changed by "preserving" the supportive structures of the nose with minimal bone and cartilage removal. This leads to faster healing and natural long-term outcomes in a shorter period.

Rhinoplasty is more than just a surgical procedure. It is a series of personal decisions, followed by a series of medical and aesthetic decisions.  Dr. Siegel will work with you every step of the way. You will not be handed off to an assistant or a junior associate. We remain a small boutique practice providing not only exceptional surgical results and personalized care.

Houston’s Dr. Michel Siegel is one of the few surgeons in Houston and the US who specializes exclusively in nose and facial surgery.  He also has significant experience with patients of all ethnic backgrounds, which matters if the goal is to attain a nose that looks just right on a unique person’s unique face, alongside other unique features.

He is also one of the relatively few nose surgeons experienced in both ultrasonic (AKA piezo) rhinoplasty and preservation rhinoplasty techniques, both of which can produce long-lasting results with less disruption, swelling, and bruising, and with a shorter recovery time.

Dr. Siegel’s decades of experience in nose surgery, combined with his aesthetic sense of balance, always shine through in a patient’s results. The results should not only be natural, but timeless.  The nose should fit one’s face not only during the teenage years, but should also blend in with and develop alongside other facial features as a patient transitions from the teenage years to adulthood.

Dr. Siegel’s techniques afford the shortest-possible recovery, with no packing inside the nose (alleviating the pain associated with typical nose surgery), and minimal bruising due to his specialized technique.

Very pleased X 3 times. Dr. Siegel performed rhinoplasty on my third daughter and the results were as usual-Superlative! Unfortunately my girls inherited my husband’s genetics, and they all had Italian noses. We first found Dr. Siegel 5 years ago, when my first daughter turned 18 and was ready for her procedure. We had a first class experience with the care and the results. By the time my second daughter was ready for her surgery we were so sold on Dr Siegel’s skills that we did not even see anyone else. He did an outstanding job on my second daughter as well, so needles to say, this time around was also a no brainer. They all are extremely happy with their new noses, and Dr. Siegel has consistently displayed great bedside manner, on top of his great technical abilities.
