The chin is one of the focal parts of the face. It can completely alter how you look and how you feel about yourself. Chin reduction surgery removes excess bone to help improve the appearance of a chin that is overlarge or projects too far for your face shape. This type of surgery, technically called mentoplasty, can give you a more balanced look and a more attractive facial appearance.

What is Chin Reduction Surgery?

Chin reduction is a surgical procedure in which the bone and tissues of the chin are reshaped in order to achieve a more proportionate facial structure. Sometimes, chin reduction will be recommended alongside nose surgery or rhinoplasty procedures in order to keep the face shape and size proportionate and balanced.

Double Chin Surgery

If the problem is not the chin itself, but rather the extra skin that has collected under the chin, a facelift, or neck lift, may be recommended instead. Similarly, liposuction can be used to remove extra fat and trim away the fat creating a double chin. In the hands of a skilled surgeon such as Dr. Siegel, these other methods can improve the overall appearance of your chin.

The only way to know exactly what you need for your individual chin and facial structure is to consult with our facial plastic surgeon. To schedule your personal consultation to discuss chin reduction options with Dr. Siegel, call 832-572-5793.

Is Chin Reduction Surgery Right for You?

If you feel that your face is not proportionate or symmetrical due to a large, wide, or protruding chin, a chin reduction can enhance your look. There may be other options that will achieve your desired result without removing bone. Scheduling a consultation with Dr. Siegel at FACE in Houston is the best step to determining if chin reduction is the right procedure to achieve your desired results.

What is the Chin Reduction Procedure?

Under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia, Dr. Siegel will make a small incision either in the mouth or below the chin. Via the incision, Dr. Siegel will remove or shave down any excess bone or tissue and reshape the structure. He may also reposition the tip of the chin to secure it before closing the incision. The incision is tiny, about 1.5cm, and will heal to be inconspicuous and hidden beneath the chin.

Results of Chin Reduction Surgery: What Should I Expect?

You may not see the results immediately due to swelling and your new facial contours may not be fully developed. It can take up to two months before you can see the full results. Side effects are limited and rare. Make sure to discuss any allergies to anesthesia with Dr. Siegel in your private consultation.
