Changing the Length of the Nose
There are two primary factors that affect the length of the nose: 1.The starting point, or the Nasion 2.The position of the Tip or Supra-Tip. The nose may appear longer or shorter, depending on the position of the Nasion. This is illustrated in the examples below.
In this first example, the woman on the left appears to have a shorter nose than the woman on the right. But what are the structural differences that cause this difference in appearance?

This second example illustrates the structural differences, and gives us a better idea when one woman’s nose appears longer or shorter than another woman’s. The Green Line follows the forehead, while the Purple Line follows the length of the nose. The Red Arrow points to the area between the end of the forehead and the beginning of the nose. This area is also called the Nasion.

Notice that the woman’s nose on the right starts much closer to the forehead, and thus the nose is longer. The woman to the left has a longer forehead, causing her nose to start lower on her face. Because of this, the woman on the left has a shorter nose.
Depending on the patient, the nose can be made longer or shorter with surgical procedures targeting the area between the nose and the forehead. The right length of nose can greatly improve the balance to a persons face.
