Although the use of cosmetic injectables is generally considered “minimally invasive,” injection still involves the penetration of the skin and the strategic infusion of materials directly into the tissues of your body. In effect, they are medical procedures and should be given serious consideration. Below are five of the most important considerations you should have when selecting a provider of this type of service.

1. The Skill Level of the Provider Doing the Injection

It Takes AESTHETIC DISCERNMENT & SKILL to Make the Promises Real

The results you get from the latest cosmetic injectables are very technique and application dependent. In other words, the person performing the injection (the “injector”) is as important as the product injected (the “injectable”).

As with anything, you truly get what you pay for, so make sure that you are confident with the knowledge, skill and experience of the injector. In order to achieve your desired results, the injector must know how to use the injectables properly. Getting a natural appearance vs. a “frozen” or “overdone” look is predicated on finding someone with aesthetically appropriate judgment, discernment and solid experience in all aspects of facial rejuvenation.

2. “Why bother with a consultation, when I can get it done at any rejuvenation clinic. Everyone performs the procedure!”

Your Provider’s KNOWLEDGE of INJECTABLES is Critical to Success

Do you need wrinkle reduction? More volume? Shaping? Or all three? There are a lot of misconceptions regarding what injectables can do and which ones are best for individual circumstances.

Confirm that your provider is credible, qualified, and has a thorough knowledge of injectables. During your consultation, your provider must be able to clarify and explain how specific injectables can help you meet your goals.  You can schedule a consultation and treatment for the same day.

3. Every Action has a Potential Reaction

Your Injector’s KNOWLEDGE of FACIAL ANATOMY Can Anticipate Consequences

Injecting is the easy part - understanding facial anatomy and the unintended consequences from injectable use is the tough part. For instance, while BOTOX Cosmetic® may eliminate the “elevens” between the eyes, a BOTOX injection can “drop” the middle part of your brows. The lines may be gone but you will appear to be angry. A knowledgeable plastic surgeon will be able to counteract this by reshaping the brow line for a mini brow lift. It gives the patient a nice, relaxed look. The negative consequences are avoided because the physician has anticipated the reaction.

4. Who is Administering the Injections

For Best Results Insist on PHYSICIAN ADMINISTERED

Do not assume that “physician supervised” means “physician administered.” Also, physician can mean a wide variety of practitioners - not necessarily facial specialists. Injectables are not cosmetics; they are medical procedures, and so should be performed only in a medical setting.

Due to the recent surge of procedures performed by people with inadequate training and experience, a group called The Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety was established. Their goal is to stem the tide of untrained practitioners. Many patients are unaware that complications can occur - bleeding, asymmetry, under or over correction. Consumers learn too late about adverse results that may be temporary in nature, but still last several months. Extensive use of fillers can make a patient appear un-natural, puffy or distorted.

REMEMBER- MINIMALLY INVASIVE DOES NOT MEAN “CAREFREE.”

5. Will seeing a facial Plastic Surgeon cost more?

Seek COMPARABLE VALUE & MAXIMIZED RESULTS

When comparing physician prices to spa or anti-aging clinic prices, the answer is that physician prices are not necessarily higher. Some physicians are competitive. The better question to ask is, are you getting more value for your money that includes all the considerations mentioned above. When combined, all these considerations will maximize results. In fact, in the hands of a skilled plastic surgeon, the results can be comparable to a surgical face lift.
